Is your hair in need of intense moisturization? If so, why not try deep conditioning with STEAM at home? This steam treatment is a great way to open the hair folicle and allow it absorb a great amount of moisture. This treatment is great if you do not have expensive equipment that you would find at a salon (i.e hooded dryer). I tried this and it left my hair feeling gorgeously moist. It also had loads of shine and bounce once I straightened and styled it. Try it out:
There are a few things you will need:
1) Regular plastic caps
2) a Self heating cap (see picture) these can be found at your local beauty supply store for around $3. They are really cool because they use your body heat to create heat underneath the cap to condition your hair. I love them!
3) Two turban towels, or small towels that you can wrap into a turban. The turban towels (see pic) are great for wrapping up your hair!
4) A bowl, gloves, water, and a microwave.
Step 1: Start out with freshly washed hair. Towel blot your hair and allow it to air dry as much as possible. Dry hair absorbs moisture better then wet hair! Apply any conditioner of your choosing thoroughly from root to tip (concentrate on those ends!). Comb through to ensure even distribution.
Step 2: Fill up your bowl with hot water and submerge the two towels in the water. Put the bowl with towels in the microwave and heat until the water is very hot (steaming, but not boiling). Put on your gloves and remove the bowl from the mocrowave. Be careful, it will be hot! Pick up the first towel and wring out the excess water. Place the hot towel directly onto your head and wrap it tightly. Be sure the water is not too hot, you do not want to burn yourself! Place the plastic cap over the hot towel. Next, take the second hot towel from the bowl and wring out the excess water. Place this towel over the plastic cap tightly. Finally cover with the self heating cap.
Step 3: Allow your hair to steam condition for about an hour! Once your time is up, remove caps and towels and rinse with cool water to seal the cuticle. Your hair will be insanely moist, soft, and shiny. Don’t take my word for it, try it out yourself!
